General Manager Agro, Abdul Hameed
said that cotton is like the backbone of country's economy.
Allahdin Group of Companies has introduced a new variety of
cotton, "BT-A One." While telling about the prominent features
of this variety in a Field, Abdul Hameed said that the main
drawback in all the existing BT cotton varieties is that they
drop their bolls during the severe heat whereas the process to
drop its bolls in this variety is almost zero.
He said that this variety ripe completely in October even if you
sow it at the end of May and you can also sow wheat on time due
to this quality. It is generally assumed that BT cotton requires
more water and fertiliser but this variety needs only normal
water and fertiliser.
This variety can be cultivated any time between March and May.
BT-A One is also an ideal variety for the ginners and textile
sector. He further said that this variety was cultivated in more
than dozen places and the yield of this variety is recorded
between 40 to 50 maunds per acre.
Former speaker national assembly and renowned farmer, Syed
Fakhar Imam said on this occasion that I haven't sown this
variety but when I see this variety cultivated here, I am very
happy and now next year I would also cultivate this variety. He
said that this is such a variety by which not only the farmers
can get the good production but also play a positive role in the
economy of the country.
Syed Fakhar Imam appreciated the efforts of private sector for
the betterment of agriculture and said that if this variety
would be cultivated then the target to get 2 million bales of
cotton is not impossible. He said that dozens of research
centres are working in only Punjab but no one has yet be able to
introduce such a variety, which could yield a good production.
