In 2008
DORIANE, publisher of
LABKEY™ software, which enables R&D managers and their teams to
integrate management of technical data for any biological model,
has enjoyed continued success.
In February 2008, energy crop company Ceres, Inc. became
the first American company to choose Doriane. The plant
biotechnology company is using the LABKEY™ Suite to manage
nursery production,
experimental trials, labeling and analyses. Ceres develops and
markets seeds of non-food, low-carbon crops for biofuels and
biopower. The successful installation of LABKEY™ was performed
by Doriane experts on-site at Ceres’ headquarters in Thousand
Oaks, California with significant remote assistance.
In March 2008, AGRI-Obtentions, the seed breeder for
sustainable agriculture – devoted to plant breeding, chose
DORIANE to manage breeding and experimentation of numerous field
crop species. This choice was based on Agri Obtentions’ desire
to homogenize its methods, labeling and reports and centralize
data. Today, Agri-Obtentions is particularly interested in
developing its breeding programs for certain species. The choice
of LABKEY™-SELECTION and EXPERIMENTATION™ is a response to this
challenge. Less than 3 months after signing the contract,
parameterization of the different species was completed.
Production of real data was possible as of June 2008.
In 2008, MOREL-Diffusion, international co-leader for
cyclamen, also opted for DORIANE. During the implementation of
LABKEY™-SELECTION, all breeding data was restructured,
standardized and afterwards could be shared. The history of each
variety was imported to the LABKEY™ central database. Now, the
genealogy and traceability of each seed is duly registered, thus
ensuring sustainable research data.
In May 2008, Goldsmith Seeds, an American firm
specialized in the creation of innovative varieties and flower
production chose DORIANE. Goldsmith Seeds has more than 4,000
employees and two main research sites in Gilroy, California and
Andijk (Netherlands). The company chose DORIANE after the
creation of a breeding data prototype. The results were
demonstrated during an Internet conference call. This
presentation highlighted the full range and richness of
LABKEY’s™ possibilities. Two months after signing the contract,
in July of this year, production of the first floral species was
successfully launched.
Finally, in July 2008, RAGT-R2n, a European seed company
specialized in the production of major field crop and forage
species, developed its research efforts around DORIANE services
& solutions.
RAGT-R2n has 110 researchers working in 14 stations throughout
Europe.
DORIANE has supplied RAGT-R2n with software for 20 years.
Historically, the project started with mobile data entry and was
extended to breeding of forage and maize seeds. In 2007, after
acquiring Monsanto’s European Cereal business, RAGT wanted to
integrate this new activity in LABKEY™ in order to harmonize and
standardize IT tools and breeding methods available for each
group of plant species. Homogenization of corporate cultures
within different countries was achieved through LABKEY™. At the
same time, equipping laboratories in France, Czech Republic and
the United Kingdom with LABKEY™-Analytical, LABKEY™-Flow and
LABKEY™-Molecular-Markers enabled genotype-phenotype inquiries
under a unified database system. Production of the first cereal
campaign was launched in the summer 2008: experimental nurseries
and winter sowing were preformed with LABKEY™.
