Producer's Choice, Grassland Central and Target Seeds are merging to operate as Producer's Choice

.

Woodland, California
June 23, 2008

Effective June 16, 2008, Grassland Central’s offices located in Jordan, Minnesota will become the Midwest base of operations for Producer’s Choice. Dallas Grekoff and the entire staff of Grassland Central will continue to provide their customers with products and services. "We are excited about our merger and are looking forward to our being the central location for Producer's Choice. This merger will ensure that our customers will have access to the additional varieties and species that will benefit their changing needs,” states Dallas Grekoff.

Jon Watson and Tom Baxter, the founders of Target Seeds, will continue to produce alfalfa and Teff Seed for the company in their Idaho farming operations. “This merger makes it possible for the company we started to go to the next level and will allow us to focus on our core competency of agricultural production. Producer’s Choice will have access to leading edge technologies being developed by the parent company Cal/West Seeds”, adds Jon Watson. Key employees of Target Seed will continue in new roles with Producers’ Choice. Tom Miles becomes the Regional Manager for Producer’s Choice in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Don Miller becomes the Director of Product Development for Producers Choice Seed. Gene Lind will continue to work with key customers in a sales role.

Producer’s Choice, was launched in 2001 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Cal/West Seeds, recognized globally as a leader in forage seeds for over 70 years. Prior to the initiation of Producer’s Choice, Cal/West Seeds did business primarily via exclusive licensing arrangements with seed companies. The accelerated consolidation of the seed industry was a catalyst for the initiative, providing a stable channel for the company’s products to be distributed to growers. Producer’s Choice acquired the assets of PGI Alfalfa in 2005.

The merger with Grassland Central and Target Seeds is a significant step as Producer’s Choice expands towards becoming a national brand specializing in grass and legume seeds, offering dealers and producers leading edge genetics and new technologies. Producer’s Choice dealers will now have a much broader portfolio of products to offer including forage and turf grasses as well as numerous forage mixes.

Terms of the transaction were not announced.
