Bayer CropScience
recently launched its Qualidate® fingerprint authentification
technique. Qualidate®, a new patented technology based on
approved food additives was developed to protect crop protection
products from Bayer CropScience against the increased prevalence
of illegal trade and counterfeiting which the entire plant
protection industry is faced with. "This innovative tool
provides a quick and easy test to determine whether or not a
product is authentic and of original Bayer CropScience quality",
said Dr. Rüdiger Scheitza, Member of the Board of Management of
Bayer CropScience AG.
Illegal production and trade does not only violate Bayer
CropScience´s patent rights. They can also present hazards to
applicators and potentially put the environment and the health
of consumers at an unacceptable risk. "A proactive response
against such illegal activities is therefore of common interest
for suppliers, trade, producers and consumers", Dr. Scheitza
added.
Increasing global counterfeiting and illegal traffic
The European Crop Protection Association (ECPA) estimates that 5
to 7 percent of Europe´s plant protection products are illegal
or counterfeit. This situation has been growing over the past
years, especially with the increase in computerized
manufacturing processes, computerized graphics for labeling and
the relaxation in global and regional trade law. Illegal
products challenge food company reputations, supply systems and
export markets. Governments are effected as well, e.g. every
year, up to EUR 30 million in tax revenues are lost by European
governments. Left unchecked, illegal trade in plant protection
products will reduce innovation and development, as a
consequence of sales loss, patent infringements and erosion of
data protection.
The ECPA is committed to combating counterfeiting and illegal
trade and calls on all major stakeholders including the European
Commission, Council and Parliament, national authorities, the
food value chain, farmers and growers. Bayer CropScience will
continue to work together with the ECPA and its members to
minimize the import and use of counterfeiting and illegally
imported plant protection products.

Bayer CropScience führt neue patentierte Technik zur
Echtheitsprüfung ein: Mit Qualidate illegalen Handel und
Fälschungen bekämpfen
Bayer CropScience hat vor kurzem Qualidate® zur Echtheitsprüfung
eingeführt. Qualidate®, eine neue patentierte Technologie auf
Basis zugelassener Lebensmittelzusatzstoffe, wurde entwickelt,
um Pflanzenschutzmittel von Bayer CropScience gegen das
verstärkte Auftreten von illegalem Handel und Fälschungen zu
schützen, mit denen sich die gesamte Pflanzenschutzindustrie
konfrontiert sieht. "Anhand dieses innovativen Instrumentes
lässt sich schnell und einfach feststellen, ob ein Produkt echt
ist und wirklich die Qualität von Bayer CropScience besitzt oder
nicht", sagt Dr. Rüdiger Scheitza, Vorstandsmitglied der Bayer
CropScience AG.
Illegale Herstellung und illegaler Handel verletzen nicht nur
die Patentrechte von Bayer CropScience. Sie können auch eine
Gefährdung für Anwender darstellen sowie die Umwelt und die
Gesundheit von Menschen einem nicht akzeptablen Risiko
aussetzen. "Ein offensives Vorgehen gegen solche illegalen
Aktivitäten ist daher im Interesse aller: der Lieferanten, des
Handels, der Hersteller und der Verbraucher", ergänzt Dr.
Scheitza.
Fälschungen und illegaler Handel nehmen weltweit zu
Nach Schätzungen des europäischen Verbandes der
Pflanzenschutzindustrie (ECPA) sind 5 bis 7 Prozent der
europäischen Pflanzenschutzmittel illegal oder gefälscht. Diese
Situation hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren ausgeweitet,
insbesondere durch immer mehr computerunterstützte
Produktionsverfahren und Herstellung von gefälschten Etiketten
sowie die Lockerung weltweiter und regionaler Handelsgesetze.
Illegale Produkte schädigen den Ruf von Lebensmittelunternehmen
und stellen eine Herausforderung für den Handel und die
Exportnationen dar. Auch Regierungen sind betroffen: So gehen
den europäischen Staaten beispielsweise jedes Jahr bis zu 30
Millionen Euro an Steuereinnahmen verloren. Wird dem illegalen
Handel mit Pflanzenschutzmitteln kein Riegel vorgeschoben, so
wird sich das infolge von Umsatzausfällen, Patentverletzungen
und der schleichenden Erosion des Datenschutzes negativ auf
Innovation und Entwicklung auswirken.
Die ECPA will Fälschungen und illegalen Handel entschieden
bekämpfen und ruft alle wichtigen Interessengruppen zum Handeln
auf, unter anderem die Europäische Kommission, den Europäischen
Rat und das Europäische Parlament, nationale Behörden sowie die
Lebensmittelindustrie, Landwirte und Erzeuger.
Bayer CropScience wird sich weiterhin in enger Zusammenarbeit
mit der ECPA und ihren Mitgliedsfirmen dafür einsetzen, dass die
Einfuhr und die Verwendung gefälschter und illegal importierter
Pflanzenschutzmittel so weit wie möglich eingedämmt werden. |
