Indiana Crop Improvement Association, Inc. is authorized by Monsanto to perform oil profiling from Vistive soybean samples

Lafayette, Indiana
January 17, 2008

The Indiana Crop Improvement Association, Inc. (ICIA) has gone through the rigorous steps to become a Monsanto approved lab to test soybeans for the Vistive™ oil profile.

Vistive™ soybeans are the Monsanto product offering for lowlinolenic soybean oil that is growing in demand due to the trend for lower and/or zero trans fats in most foods in the United States. Some of the biggest names in the food industry, including Kellogg’s and KFC, are using lowlinolenic soybean oil. The soybeans must be tested to confirm that they meet the profile criteria of Vistive™ in order to participate in this market. ICIA is now positioned to be a quality control partner to those companies who elect to market Vistive™ soybeans.

“As with all our lab testing services, our same quality standards will apply,” said Dr. Richard Vierling, director of the Genetics Laboratory at Indiana Crop Improvement. “Standards such as running control samples with every sample, statistical analysis of every sample and independent replications.”

Going through this process is another example of ICIA’s intent to remain at the forefront of industry demands and be in a position to offer the greatest value to our customers. “We are very sensitive to the trends and market shifts occurring in the seed industry and in order to best serve our customers we must be prepared to offer them the testing services they will need to be successful,” said Liz Pestow, ICIA Marketing Director, about the significant investment of time and resources required to become a Monsanto authorized laboratory.

Indiana Crop Improvement Association, Inc. is a sciencebased testing laboratory and technology center, offering seed and green tissue testing services for most crop species. In addition to conventional lab tests, the Genetics Lab offers PCR and ELISA trait testing and a line up of GMO tests for seed, grain and related products. ICIA also offers customized field service programs, Identity Preserved (IP) programs, auditing services, Quality Assurance (QA) programs and is an ISO 90012000 certified organization.
