Global Flowers A/S
announced today the acquisition by Takii of a 100% share in
Global Flowers. Takii is a Japanese company that breeds,
produces and sells vegetable and flower varieties since 1835.
global Flowers, established in 1996, is a company specialized in
breeding, production and sales of flower seeds to the
professional horticultural industry worldwide. Financial details
of the agreement were not disclosed. This is the second
acquisition of a European flower breeding company by Takii,
following the acquisition of K.Sahin Zaden BV in September 2007.
By acquiring Global Flowers, Takii will strengthen its breeding
capacity and sales in the flower seed industry.

Founded in 1835, Takii & Co.,
Ltd. specializes in vegetable and flower seed varieties. Takii
maintains the leading position in tomato, carrot, cabbage,
Chinese cabbage, radish, onion and many other species for the
world vegetable seed markets. Its flower varieties such as
dianthus, pansy, sunflower, zinnia and ornamental brassica are
also being used worldwide. Takii has approximately 100 breeders
and researchers in 6 research stations in Japan. In Europe,
Takii is located in The Netherlands (Takii Europe BV and, after
the take-over in September 2007, K. Sahin Zaden BV) and France
(Takii France S.A.).
Global Flowers A/S was
established in 1996 by 4 seedsmen: Søren Hvid, Jens Tofte,
Henning Johnsen and Villy Christiansen. The company is
specialized in high quality flower varieties of pot plants,
bedding plants and cut flowers for the professional market. The
main products are Begonia semp., Gerbera, Lisianthus and
Primula. Global Flowers exports flower seed to more than 60
countries worldwide. In 2007, the company employed a total of 37
