It’s that time of year again.
Growers are flooded with performance claims about seeds,
herbicides, insect control, tillage practices, planting dates
and more. Like campaign promises in an election year, product
claims can be overwhelming.
Many turn to trusted local retailers to sort the wheat from the
chaff and select the best combination of products and practices
to maximize yield. Recognizing this critical service,
NK Seeds has renewed its
commitment to local retailers through its Productivity
Solutions™ initiative.
“Good seed genetics is the foundation for a successful crop, and
working with a good retailer is the foundation for a successful
year,” said Chris Hoffmann, soybean crop manager, NK Seeds.
“Focusing on our Productivity Solutions initiative to achieve
high-yielding results at harvest, we’re working with our retail
partners to combine their local expertise with the NK and
Syngenta product portfolio to provide solutions to growers.”
It’s a partnership that works for the grower, according to
retailer Randy Rodgers of Service and Supply Co-op in New
Florence, Missouri.
“Our mutual goal is to provide complete and more productive
solutions to growers,” Rodgers said. “Our customers rely on us
year after year to make the best recommendations, and we, in
turn, rely on our relationships with NK Seeds and Syngenta for
access to quality hybrids and varieties, as well as superior
crop protection products and seed treatments.”
Like many NK retail partners, Service and Supply Co-op offers a
line-up of fertility, application, soil testing and agronomic
services to provide full service for growers.
Selecting Seeds That Yield
“Each year, seed buying decisions become more complicated, and
unique challenges arise in each field,” Rodgers said. “A wide
range of quality options from NK and Syngenta allows us to use
our agronomic knowledge to customize product recommendations for
every acre.”
In 2007 trials, NK® Brand soybeans continued to out-yield major
competitive products in 76 percent of more than 18,000 yield
comparisons. Over the last three years, trials also demonstrated
NK Brand soybeans deliver more consistent yields, achieving
60-plus bu/A twice as often as competitors.
“The documented NK Brand soybean yield advantage can make a real
difference on the bottom line,” Hoffmann said. “For example,
top-performers S21-N6 Brand and S39-A3 Brand out-yielded
competitive varieties by an average of 2.7 bushels per acre.”
With soybeans priced at $13/bu, that could mean as much as a
$35-per-acre advantage.
Plus, NK Brand soybeans feature superior soybean cyst nematode
and sudden death syndrome resistance, and proven agronomic
packages to combat regional pests, including Phytophthora root
rot, iron deficiency chlorosis, frog-eye leaf spot and white
mold.
Growers can complement their soybean acres with the elite
germplasm of NK corn hybrids.
“For 2008 planting, growers can select from an unprecedented
amount of new options with trusted NK genetics, Agrisure® traits
and stacks,” said Marshall Kostiuk, corn crop manager, NK Seeds.
“Developed through the strong Syngenta pipeline, they add even
more freedom of choice for insect control and weed management
options to the already strong portfolio.”
In field trials conducted by Syngenta in 2007, NK hybrids
provided more yield more often than competitive hybrids,
according to Kostiuk. Top-performing NK hybrids with the
Agrisure CB/LL/RW traits included N72D, N60-G7 and N60-B4.
By starting with high-quality NK genetics and working with their
retailer to identify other Productivity Solutions, growers can
pave the way to higher yields and revenue.
