The leading independent measure
comparing yield performance of canola hybrids has again put
InVigor® canola hybrids from
Bayer CropScience
on top in 2008. It's the sixth consecutive year that the Prairie
Canola Variety Trials (PCVT) results have InVigor hybrids on top
- maintaining an unbroken string as the top yielder every year
since the inception of the PCVTs in 2003.
InVigor canola hybrids outpaced all competitors, taking the top
seven yield positions again in 2008 in all zones, including
short-season, mid-season and long-season.
"The PCVT results confirm what thousands of canola growers have
known for over ten years: InVigor canola hybrids yield more,"
said Rod Merryweather, North American Oilseeds Business
Operations Manager with Bayer CropScience in Calgary.
The Prairie Canola Variety Trials (PCVT) are managed by the
Canola Council of Canada. The PCVT trials are replicated weed
free trials that provide information on the genetic capability
of all canola types entered into the trial. Starting last year,
InVigor 5020 and Pioneer® Hi-Bred 45H21 became one of the new
checks of the PCVT trials.
The 2008 PCVT results, comparing hybrids to those new checks,
showed InVigor 5440 as the highest yielding canola hybrid in all
the zones. InVigor 5440's overall average was 110% of the new
checks. InVigor 8440, InVigor 5030 and a new experimental
InVigor each averaged 108% of the new checks. InVigor 9590
averaged 106% of the new checks while InVigor 5020 averaged 105%
of the new checks.
Rounding out the top seven yield positions, InVigor Heath 1144,
a specialty canola oil hybrid, came in at 105% of the new
checks. It performed better than any other specialty products in
the trials.
No competitor hybrids exceeded 100% of the check yield -
indicating that InVigor continues to deliver 10% or more yield
over any competitive products.
"We're pleased that the results from the Canola Council's PCVTs
are in line with the results we saw in our extensive
Demonstration Strip Trials this season," said Merryweather. "It
all paints a very consistent yield picture - not only in 2008
but for the past several years - nothing outperforms InVigor."
Demonstration Strip Trial results consistent with PCVT
Since 1997, Bayer CropScience has also conducted Demonstration
Strip Trials (DSTs) at various locations across the canola
growing regions of the Prairies. These farmer-managed trials
also showed a clear InVigor yield advantage.
The recently tabulated 2008 Demonstration Strip Trial (DST)
results for Western Canada showed top InVigor hybrids produced
yields that were on average 5.6 to 6.2 bu/ac more than DeKalb®
71-45 and Pioneer Hi-Bred 45H26. The Top InVigor hybrid yield
averaged 51.6 bu/ac while Dekalb 71-45 and Pioneer Hi-Bred 45H26
came in at 45.4 bu/ac and 46 bu/ac respectively.
"Without a doubt, InVigor is the undisputed yield champion and
we're pleased that canola growers in Western Canada continue to
have confidence in InVigor for top yield performance, a strong
agronomic package and the best return on investment," said
Merryweather.
