GRDC is offering three scholarships of $25,000 each to
Australian graingrowers through the
Nuffield Australia Farming
Scholars program and at least one scholarship is destined
for a Western Australian recipient.
Applicants must be Australian citizens aged 28 to 40, actively
engaged in grain production and intending to remain involved in
primary production in Australia.
Neil Young, Chair of the GRDC Western Region Panel, urged those
involved in the Western Australian grains industry to apply.
"With WA's grain industry so export oriented, it benefits the
industry and individuals when scholars broaden the boundaries of
their knowledge and experience through the Global Focus Program
and share what they find with the industry," Mr Young said.
WA GRDC-supported Nuffield Scholars of 2007 were Mark Graham of
Popanyinning and Simon Tiller of Esperance.
Mr Graham studied the opportunities and risks for Australian
agriculture in the changing energy market, with a focus on
broadacre farming and Mr Tiller investigated farming systems
that add value to, or recycle, many or all of their products and
byproducts.
Applications for 2008 scholarships close on June 30, with
finalists interviewed in September and winners announced in
October.
