Kaspa, the friendly field pea from the Pulse Breeding Australia program

.

Western Australia
April 16, 2008

Two pre-release lines of field pea, OZP 0601 and OZP 0602, promoted from the GRDC-supported Pulse Breeding Australia program, show great potential for Western Australia, according to Ian Pritchard, Grains Extension Officer at DAFWA.

The lines were selected from 24 evaluated across 11 sites in 2007.

"They are Kaspa type early-mid flowering field peas and are in the last stages of testing before release," Mr Pritchard said.

"If they perform well this year, limited quantities will be available for release in 2009. They're going through the pre-commercialisation pipeline now."

He indicated that Kaspa continued to show the broadest adaptation throughout the Western Australia wheatbelt.
