The Iowa Crop
Improvement Association (ICIA) is the second seed
certification agency in the United States to receive ISO 9001:
2000 certification.
The International Organization for Standardization or ISO is a
standard-setting body composed of representatives from several
nations. The standards set during ISO certification assure
customers that the ICIA meets specific quality management
systems requirements.
The certification is used by the agricultural industry to ensure
quality in the services and products companies provide. ICIA
received certification after an auditing process this summer.
The ICIA board of directors supported the effort in order to
strengthen internal policies and programs, assist members in
achieving ISO certification, strengthen its Organization for
Economic Cooperation and Development activities in Iowa, improve
its identity preserved programs and position ICIA to take
advantage of opportunities in the industry.
The mission of ICIA is to provide an unbiased source of
service and education in production and quality assurance for
Iowa agricultural crops. Founded in 1902, the association has
provided seed production and crop performance testing services
for more than 87 years.
The association's membership is composed of farmers, seed
producers and others interested in crop improvement. Lee Huey of
Ames currently is president of the nine-member board of
directors. The Iowa Crop Improvement Association supports the
Iowa State University Crops Team, sponsors the Iowa FFA Agronomy
Career Development event, offers a summer internship program and
awards five annual scholarships to Iowa State undergraduates. |
