Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) said today that it is
responding to a civil investigative demand from the Iowa
Attorney General's office and will provide information regarding
its seed, trait, and chemistry related licensing and marketing
programs to that office and any other interested state Attorneys
General.
"Farmers buy seed each year based on the yield and value brought
to their farms at harvest which has resulted in rapid and broad
adoption of biotech seed products," said Monsanto's General
Counsel David Snively. "Given the pace and scale of ag
biotechnology adoption, it is understandable why regulators want
to know more about competition in modern agriculture and how
products are developed and used."
Monsanto's commercial business approach is to invest in seed and
trait technology development to create products that increase
yield and improve farm productivity. Monsanto broadly licenses
improved germplasm and traits to hundreds of competing seed
companies so that farmers who wish to plant seed with the
company's technology and germplasm innovations can choose the
seed brands they prefer.
Monsanto Company is a leading global provider of
technology-based solutions and agricultural products that
improve farm productivity and food quality. |
