Como, Western Australia
October 16, 2007
The Council of Grain Grower Organisations Ltd, as licensee,
and Grain Biotech Australia Pty Ltd, as owner, have opened the
seed trading arrangements of wheat variety GBA Sapphire*.
Marketing Manager Eliot Jones said open trading was now
permitted in Western Australia for GBA Sapphire* and growers
were now able to undertake farmer to farmer trading in Western
Australia only.
“With the tough seasonal conditions experienced by many West
Australian growers in 2006 and with the unpredictable season of
2007, this will give them an alternative avenue to obtain seed
for the coming seasons.”
Mr Jones said that as this is a variety protected by Plant
Breeders Rights (PBR), an end point royalty of $3.30 per tonne
(inc. GST) is payable at the point of delivery. It is important
that all growers are aware of the EPR Terms & Conditions before
purchasing GBA Sapphire*. All GBA Sapphire* growers who retained
seed from season 2006 will be forwarded a letter and a copy of
the EPR Terms & Conditions outlining their future obligations.
“Growers also need to be aware of the biosecurity risks when
purchasing seed that is not Certified or Registered. Always
ensure that you buy seed with a seed analysis certificate to
provide you with germination and purity results.”

open trading, please contact COGGO on (08) 9363 3400.
