Sakata supports The National Watermelon Association in new promotion

Sakata Seed America, Inc. is demonstrating its continued support of The National Watermelon Association, Inc. in a new promotion of its triploid watermelon variety, Sweet Treasure. For every unit of Sweet Treasure seed sold through July 2008, Sakata will make a donation to the National Watermelon Association.

Sweet Treasure, trialed experimentally as SSX 7401, is a round oval Crimson Sweet triploid watermelon variety that produces superior quality 16-18 pound fruit. It has a strong and vigorous vine, smooth dense red flesh and produces excellent yields. This high quality watermelon is a welcome addition to growers’ watermelon line-up.

Sakata’s watermelon program is very extensive and includes a wide array of watermelon types for all market regions. Varieties include diploid Allweet, Crimson Sweet, Charleston Grey, triploid Jubilee, Green and Dark Green rind types, Yellow Flesh and Pollenizers. Sakata also has an extensive array of varieties in the pipeline for growers to look for to enhance their future watermelon programs.
