Agricultural University (TNAU), both in India, have agreed
to work together to develop genetically modified (GM) cassava
plants with resistance to the cassava mosaic virus. The partners
plan to employ an "indigenous" technology that was developed at
Madurai Kamaraj University in India. Their research will be
supported by the Indian Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under
the small business innovation research initiative (SBIRI). The
article reports that cassava is an important crop in India's
southern region, and the mosaic virus is of the major
