Enza Zaden and Germain’s
Technology Group (GTG) jointly announce today that Enza has
acquired a non-exclusive license to Germain’s technology for
seed germination enhancement (priming).
The technology portfolio comprises a patent for priming seed, in
batches of a few grams to hundreds of kilograms – the renowned
drum-priming principle. This intellectual property is protected
by patents granted in the USA, Canada, Japan, France, Germany,
the Netherlands and the UK.
GTG will establish further licences for the system, while
safeguarding and managing IP rights. The invention was
originally made by researchers at Warwick HRI, the leading
international horticultural research institute. The status of
existing licenses remains unaffected.
Mark Wilson, Germain’s Chief Executive, says: “We are delighted
at this opportunity to license our technology to Enza. Seed
technology is of ever-increasing importance in the delivery of
high quality seed, and systems that provide effective superior
enhancements at the right capacity and the right time are key
enablers.”
Vincent Van Bentum, Director Seed Operations of Enza comments:
"Access to the drum-priming technology means a valuable addition
to our priming methods. For specific enhancement of seed quality
and in up-scaling we see the advantage of the technique".
Enza Zaden is an international vegetable seed breeding
company which is proud of the emphasis placed on its quality in
breeding, production and sales.
GTG, part of Associated British
Foods plc, is the leading seed enhancement company, with
