Programs allow growers to manage risks and access to high-quality cotton varieties carrying the newest technology traits.

Bayer CropScience has announced the 2007 Shared Risk Programs for FiberMax® and AFD™ cotton seed varieties for West Texas, New Mexico, Okalahoma and Kansas.

The Replant and Crop Destruct Program will cover 100 percent of the grower-suggested price for the first replant of FiberMax and AFD cotton seed varieties, including those carrying the LibertyLink® technology. The program also allows for re-applications of Temik® insecticide/nematicide, AERIS™ Seed-Applied System or Gaucho® Grande seed-applied insecticide in replant situations.

In addition, the 150 lb Drought Program will provide refunds when the qualifying varieties yield less than 150 lbs of lint per land acre. FiberMax and AFD varieties with stacked Bollgard II®/Roundup Ready® Flex, LibertyLink/Bollgard II and Roundup Ready Flex will be eligible for a $50 per bag refund. FiberMax and AFD varieties with LibertyLink, Roundup Ready, Bollgard II/Roundup Ready, Bollgard® and Bollgard II will be eligible for a $40 per bag refund.

Jeff Brehmer, Bayer CropScience U.S. Marketing Manager for FiberMax and AFD, said: “We are partnering with growers so they have access to varieties with the latest technology traits to produce the best quality cotton as conveniently and efficiently as possible. At the same time, we want growers to know we are behind them with Shared Risk Programs if environmental conditions lead to crop disasters.”

Anton, Texas grower Monte Ayers planted approximately 600 of his 1,000 acres of dryland cotton to FM 960B2R in 2006 and noted the importance of Shared Risk Programs like those which will be offered in 2007.

“FM 960B2R was the best cotton we had planted on our dryland acreage in 2006,” Ayers said. “I definitely believe Shared Risk Programs are important. If you have a disaster due to conditions, you really need replant and crop destruct programs to make it work. It makes our decision to plant varieties with technology traits on dryland much easier.”

In addition, FiberMax and AFD varieties with the LibertyLink Cotton System will be eligible for reimbursements for the technology costs of seed and Ignite® 280 herbicide applications in crop destruction situations. The end date for this crop-destruct program is August 31, 2007.

For refund information on Monsanto technology fees, growers should contact Monsanto for information regarding the 2007 Roundup Rewards® Program.
