New Roundup Ready Flex lines expand Americot's germplasm base for Southwestern U.S. cotton growers

.

Lubbock, Texas
June 26, 2007

Americot, Inc. further expands its reach in the Southwest with a marketing agreement with H&W GENETEX, Ltd.

“Americot, Inc. has signed a marketing agreement with H&W GENETEX, Ltd. for 13 Roundup Ready® Flex varieties,” Americot® general manager Terry Campbell announced. “This marketing agreement once again expresses Americot’s desire to supply cotton farmers with more choices in planting seed. Americot is evaluating these 13 lines this season and will market several of them in 2008.

"This agreement greatly expands our Roundup Ready Flex offerings to the northern High Plains market. These products have the characteristics desired by the Southwest farmer: stormproof cotton with excellent fiber quality, high-yield potential and earliness. Their maturity range from very early to medium full."

Americot earlier announced that it has acquired the NexGen™ brand of cotton seed as well as specific Delta and Pine Land germplasm. These acquisitions make Americot® the second largest cotton seed company in the Southwest region in market share, and the third largest in the country.

"We also have our own germplasm developed by Dr. David Bush's Research and Development program," Campbell adds. "We now have one of the largest germplasm bases available to which we can combine with the latest and best biotechnology traits from across the world to benefit U.S. growers.

"However, it's critical that we continue to access new germplasm such as that of GENETEX because we need to make available products with different genetic backgrounds to help growers counter varying environments. This is another example of our commitment to the Southwest cotton grower that we're accessing Southwest bred germplasm like GENETEX offers. We recognize GENETEX brings value to the Southwest grower."

H&W GENETEX, Ltd. is a Texas High Plains based company launched in 1992 by Don Harper and Norman Wilson. The company focuses on Valencia peanut breeding and Plains adapted cotton varieties. GENETEX owner Don Harper, a Lamb County farmer, started his career by studying agronomy/plant science at Texas Tech before returning to the family farm. Dr. Norman Wilson, co-owner of GENETEX, has a doctorate in plant breeding and genetics from Oklahoma State University and years of experience in plant breeding and agricultural consulting.

Americot, Inc. headquartered in Lubbock, Texas provides Southwest, Midsouth and Southeast cotton growers with quality planting seed of varieties that offer high yield potential and excellent fiber quality with the technologies that growers want and need.
