PRIORITIES newsletter June 2007
Advancements in seed genetics and
technologies are happening at a very rapid pace. Gone are the
days when a customer would plant the same corn hybrid for four
or five consecutive years. The life of a corn hybrid is now
three years or less—and it’s shrinking every day.
The 2008
Golden Acres Genetics corn
lineup will feature a good mix of proven products and new
releases.
The following corn hybrids are
slated to return for 2008: 2755RRB, 2821RLH, 2831RRB, 2841RRB,
2839RR, 2843RRW, 2850RR, 8412, 2989RRB, 2993RRB and 2995RR.
New corn hybrids for 2008 include
26Z25, 26Z17, 27Z07, 28Z49, 28Z48, 28Z47, 28Z89 and 28Z95.
Several of these hybrids feature genetics that are new to the
Golden Acres lineup. Four contain the new YieldGard VT™
stacked-trait technology from Monsanto®.
One example of the product churn
taking place is the discontinuation of corn hybrid 2842RRBW. It
was a great hybrid, but it is being replaced by 27Z07.
Genetically, 27Z07 is the same as 2842RRBW, but 27Z07 features
the new VT Triple technology—thus, our decision to go with
27Z07.
“Product churn has made the seed
business more challenging for all of us,” said James Allison,
director of product development for Golden Acres. “The good news
is that our customers are seeing the benefits of these amazing
advancements in genetics and technology. It’s our job to make
sure we continue to bring them the latest and best products that
are available in the industry today.” |
