On April 17-19, 2007,
the Pannonian Plant
Biotechnology Association organized in Piestany, Slovakia a
workshop on “Plant Biotechnology and Stability of Crop
Production in the Greater Pannonian Region”. The Greater
Pannonian region includes Romania, Hungary, Serbia & Monte
Negro, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia, and
covers the total area of 24,951 million hectares of arable land.
About fifty guests attended the
conference, mainly researchers and scientists. The main goal of
the conference was to emphasize the increasing role of modern
biotechnology in everyday life and to broaden scientific
knowledge of agricultural crops - plant genomics. The Pannonian
Plant Biotechnology Association aims to apply the results of
green biotechnology research in the Greater Pannonian region.
The Greater Pannonian region has
large agricultural potential. It has a tradition of using
technological innovations and has a significant scientific
capacity. Environmentalists and scientists in the region face
similar challenges and cooperate in research. One of their most
important goals is to promote the environment-friendly
development of renewable energy.
In its press release, the
Pannonian Plant Biotechnology Association stressed the
importance of freedom in research based on European norms,
cooperation among research teams, and the establishment of
forums for dissemination of scientific results. |
