A commitment to deliver faster key
research, development and extension results to the Australian
grains industry is behind the new
Grains Research and Development
Corporation (GRDC) website
www.grdc.com.au
Launched at Parliament House, Canberra, by Sussan Ley,
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, it is
the end product of extensive consultation with growers,
consultants, researchers and other key industry stakeholders.
“The new and improved website will be of great help when it
comes to informing farmers of the results of the GRDC’s research
investments,” she said.
“In particular, the new site is quick loading which is extremely
important when research shows that web sites only have three
seconds to make an impression.
“It also provides greater simplicity, consistency and ease of
navigation to deliver key research, development and extension
results to the Australian grains industry.”
GRDC Manager, Extension and Grower Programs, Tom McCue said the
need to more easily and accurately search and resource GRDC
supported research, development and extension material drove the
redevelopment.
“The GRDC website, formerly known as GrainZone, is visited by
browsers wanting to very quickly and easily find what they are
looking for without backtracking or needing to reconsider their
search strategy,” he said.
“Because of this, the consultation process identified requests
for greater website simplicity, consistency and ease of
navigation.
“We have re-classified and categorised all R&D content to enable
improved access, searchability and accuracy for any website
visitor searching for information on the GRDC or our research
partners,” Mr McCue said.
R&D information is now organised by classification, category and
topics, including agro-ecological zones, business development,
new grain products and crop types.
The new website includes additional grains industry specific
decision support tools and educational material, as well as
improved applying/reporting processes to assist research
partners.
There are also enhanced grains industry links and easier access
to important GRDC communications materials, including media
releases, Crop Doctors, Grain Flashes and Ground Cover.
“Regional and issue specific events and diary dates are simple
to locate, with a faster and more efficient search engine,” Mr
McCue said.
“The GRDC believes in transparent communication with all of our
stakeholders, therefore the website provides timely, relevant
information on GRDC operations, including investment planning
and other procurement processes,” Mr McCue said.
