With several new seed treatments
on the market, cotton growers have more options than ever for
controlling early season insects and nematodes. However, cotton
growers still turn to Temik® insecticide/nematicide for superior
control of nematodes, thrips, early season plant bugs and mites
- especially with high populations that can do the most seedling
damage.
Growers say using Temik gives them dependable control that leads
to improved plant health and higher yields.
“We have seen yield increases of 250 lbs or greater by using 5
lbs of Temik at planting and 5 lbs at first squaring,” said
Darrell Williams, who farms near Childersburg, Ala. He added
that he has used Temik for 24 crop seasons.
Georgia grower T. Brim also saw larger yields from using Temik.
“There is no doubt that the top yields have Temik under them,”
he said. “Temik seems to stimulate the plant and does a great
job with nematodes.”
Chris Kleyla, Temik product manager,
Bayer CropScience,
said these shared experiences are good reminders that Temik
remains the most effective solution for controlling early season
insects and nematodes.
“We are pleased to see growers understand that Temik performs
consistently on high populations, multiple pests and variable
environmental conditions,” he said. “This length of control
during the most critical time for susceptible seedlings aligns
with best management practices outlined by the First Forty Days™
workshops.”
Kleyla continued by saying that Temik is one of the few products
where the difference between treated and untreated acres can be
seen in the field. “With Temik, growers get stronger, healthier
plants and less damage from insects and nematodes,” he said.
“More importantly, they get larger yields at harvest.”
Temik is also effective at controlling aphids and spider mites.
A 2004-05 Independent Crop Consultants survey revealed that
consultants who predominately used insecticide seed treatments
instead of an at-plant Temik application sprayed twice as many
acres for aphids. The same survey noted a ninefold increase in
spider mite sprays where at-plant Temik applications were not
made.
