Chris Hopkins has joined the
Bayer CropScience
FiberMax® cotton seed team as Southeast agronomist. Hopkins will
be responsible for coordinating on-farm and Extension trials of
FiberMax varieties. He also will serve as a liaison between the
company’s breeding program and producers by closely examining
potential varieties for the region.
“We are proud to have Chris join the FiberMax team,” said Steve
P. Nichols, Bayer CropScience U.S. agronomic manager. “His
addition is another step in our commitment to develop and place
FiberMax varieties with high yields and excellent fiber quality
in the Southeast.”
Hopkins joins other regional agronomists, who focus on placing
FiberMax cotton seed varieties in the right geography and act as
a resource to local FiberMax growers. Regional research efforts
also are being enhanced at the company’s three breeding stations
in Lubbock, Texas; Leland, Miss.; and Sellers, S.C. With plans
for additional stations to be established, Bayer CropScience and
FiberMax are striving to build on a tradition of excellence
across the Cotton Belt.
“I am very excited to join Bayer CropScience and the FiberMax
team,” Hopkins said. “With the company’s strong commitment to
cotton, I look forward to serving Southeastern FiberMax
producers.”
Hopkins is based in Lyons, Ga., and his territory will cover
Georgia and Alabama. Prior to joining Bayer CropScience, he
worked as an Extension county agent in Toombs County, Ga.
Hopkins is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a
Master’s Degree in Plant Protection and Pest Management.
