International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) voting governments adopt proposal to discontinue the ISTA Green Certificate

.

Bassersdorf, Switzerland
December 21, 2007

The International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) is pleased to announce that the proposal to discontinue the ISTA Green International Seed Lot Certificate was adopted by the ISTA voting delegates voting on behalf of their
respective Government at the ISTA Congress in Iguaçu Falls, Brazil in 2007. The new version of Chapter 17 on ISTA Seed Analysis Certificates will come into force on January 1, 2008.

From then on, seed testing results will be reported on ISTA Blue and ISTA Orange Certificates only. As in the past, results of tests reported on ISTA Blue Seed Sample Certificates will refer to the quality of the sample as submitted. Results reported on ISTA Orange Seed Lot Certificates refer to the quality of a seed lot as a whole since sampling and testing are conducted in accordance with the ISTA Rules by ISTA accredited laboratories.
Cases where in the past the use of a Green Certificate was required, i.e. sampling and testing performed by two different laboratories in two different countries will now be covered by the use of Orange Certificate exclusively. Full traceability is ensured since name and address of both laboratories will be reported on the ISTA Certificate.

With this change, the ISTA International Seed Testing Association is confident that international trade of seed is facilitated without any decrease in transparency and reliability of test results.
