Fellowships to pursue doctorate
degrees in the Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture
(GPSA) at Iowa State University
are available next year through a U.S. Department of Agriculture
grant.
The USDA Food and Agricultural Sciences National Needs Graduate
and Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants Program will provide two
fellowships to students pursuing doctoral degrees in sustainable
agriculture. Awardees will receive an annual stipend of $24,000
for three years and an annual allowance of $1,500 to apply
towards educational expenses. Full tuition and benefits are
included.
The fellowships are available to students entering the GPSA in
the fall semester of 2008. The deadline for applying is Feb. 1,
2008, but applications will be accepted until both awards are
made.
Applicants must be United States citizens or nationals, with
priority consideration given to members of groups traditionally
underrepresented in the food and agricultural sciences. A
graduate application is required for application, following the
instructions provided at:
http://www.sust.ag.iastate.edu/gpsa/application.html.
The program of study for each fellow will include an
interdisciplinary teaching appointment, a professional practice
assignment and an international training experience. Fellows
will be supervised by their faculty advisers and a network of
mentors.
As the first graduate, degree-granting sustainable agriculture
program in the nation, the GPSA offers a dynamic,
interdisciplinary environment for students who wish to pursue
research at the leading edge of sustainability studies.
Featuring a dedicated faculty of more than 60 members from 16
participating departments, students have the opportunity to work
with top researchers in the biophysical and social sciences and
to apply that work to building a sustainable future.
