Mid-West Seed Services gearing up for corn testing season

.

Brookings, South Dakota
August 16, 2007

Mid-West Seed Services is busily preparing for the upcoming corn testing season. In order to alleviate potential space issues, more than 400 square feet of additional walk-in germinator space for cold testing is being added. We also are purchasing 40 new germination carts to be delivered early this fall so we can be confident of meeting all your testing needs in a timely manner. These improvements will assist us in meeting the heavy testing demands this fall and winter and provide you with the quick, accurate and diagnostic services you’ve come to expect at Mid-West Seed Services.

We are also offering some new and expanded services to our corn shakeout program and encourage you to consider the advantages of shaking your corn with MWSS. We offer quick, same day service from bulk field harvest samples sent to our Shakeout Laboratory. With the addition of another shaker, our laboratory can now process approximately 50 field bulk samples per day and provide you with accurate website results. We can also customize your shakeout to provide an estimate of the number of 80,000 kernel units which can be packaged from each seed lot grade. In addition, all shakeout samples are treated and tests started within 24 hours of receipt. Packaging of samples for small grow-out plots can be accomplished at the same time, saving you valuable time and reducing chances for errors. If these services fit your needs and goals or you just want to reduce the amount of time and labor associated with shaking your own corn seed, please give Mid-West Seed Services, Inc. a call to discuss pricing. A bulk sample of approximately 25lbs (11kg) is requested for each shakeout.

A new service we are offering this fall is called our “Photo Test” in which we snap a photograph of your seed in a high-resolution JPEG format. The picture shows you at a glance the condition of the seed and any attributes or faults. Digital images allow you to magnify or zoom in on certain seeds or debris. Photographs are viewed on our website along side your test results. Also, you may copy the photo from our website and then paste it to your own computer where it can be emailed or shared with others. Please contact Terri, Joyce, or Derek for more information.
