The Northern Corridor Economic
Region (NCER) in Malaysia which comprises four northern states –
Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Nothern Perak - will have a
multi-million ringgit National Seed Centre which will see
collaboration with Chinese experts on high-quality seedlings.
The state-of-the-art centre will
be located either in Arau or Kangar which is expected to be
ready within seven months.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah
Ahmad Badawi will perform the ground-breaking ceremony for this
centre which is being initiated by
Sime Darby Sdn Bhd in
collaboration with the
Chinese
Academy of Agriculture Sciences.
Quality seed will be produced for
both export and local market.
The experts from China will help
in the research & development of seed cultivation.
To support the centre, the state
will set up a cluster of factories and this is expected to
create more than 10,000 jobs.
