Hundreds of local growers are
expected to attend an extensive field demonstration day hosted
by Pfister Hybrids El
Paso, Illinois, on July 31, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m..
Attendees will be bused a short distance from the Pfister
Hybrids facility in El Paso, which is located at 187 N. Fayette
(Hwy 251) to the event. A complimentary lunch will be served
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The highlight of “Fields of the Future” is the Stress Mitigation
Tent featuring Monsanto’s new YieldGard VT Triple™ technology
side by side with other insect-control options. YieldGard VT
Triple is the next generation of YieldGard® in-plant
insect-control technology. The advanced science involves a more
precise gene insertion process, known as Vector Stacked
Transformation, or VecTran™, to create stacked-trait hybrids.
The result is improved consistency, even better insect control
and higher yield potential than the first generation of

The Stress Mitigation tent measure 40 by 66 feet and is designed
to simulate drought-like conditions and measure corn root
performance and insect control under extremely dry conditions.
The tent has a clear vinyl top so that the plants can receive
sunlight and heat, but remain sheltered from rainfall. As part
of the test, many of the plots will be artificially infested
with corn rootworm to ensure the highest test of YieldGard VT
Triple performance under environmental and pest stress
situations.
Birkey’s Farm Store of Hudson, Illinois, will provide CASE-IH
tractors for the demonstration of Global Positioning System
(GPS) RTK auto steer. Thanks to Birkey’s Farm Store, a 30-day
trial use of the Trimble EZ-Guide 500 GPS and auto-steer system
will be raffled during the event along with several other
prizes. Other field day activities will include a planter
calibration demonstration by Precision Planting™ and a corn
fungicide demonstration.
Monsanto and AgWeb have developed an online sweepstakes
sponsored by YieldGard VT Triple with the grand prize being a
one-year lease of a Mack semitruck and grain hopper to be
awarded at the Farm Progress Show. The truck will be on display
at the field day and will have custom made YieldGard VT signage
on the hopper with a custom paint job, including the YieldGard
VT Triple logo on the cab. AgWeb will be promoting the
sweepstakes via Farm Journal, Top Producer, AgDay and AgWeb.
