Indiana Crop Improvement Association announces completion of lab expansion

.

Lafayette, Indiana
August 2, 2007

The 6500 square foot addition at the Indiana Crop Information and Seed Technology Center will house the Genetics Laboratory, the Bioassay Herbicide Testing Department and the Cold Testing Department. It also will provide for a new Sand Germination Testing Area and increased warehouse space.

The Board of Directors of the Indiana Crop Improvement Association (ICIA) approved the expansion proposal in August of 2006 in response to the sustained growth in all testing areas – with significant increases in the Bioassay and Genetics testing programs. The growth of the Genetics Program is due to the continued development of new tests for genetic purity & identity, trait validation, fertile/sterile testing and non-GMO testing. The Genetics Program now has marker sets available for not only corn and soybean but small grains and vegetable crops as well. “The addition will not only allow us to increase our testing capacity for existing tests, but also will allow us to offer new tests in the future, said Rick Vierling, Ph.D”

The area of largest growth in the Genetics Program is in Forensic Seed ServicesSM. Forensic Seed ServicesSM is the application of a broad spectrum of sciences to answer questions and solve problems. The genetics program’s expertise in genetics, plant breeding, biotechnology, assay design, statistics and seed production enables the Genetics Lab team to solve significant problems involving genetic purity and identity. Customers have found that the facts uncovered with scientific analysis have given them insight into their QA/QC systems and helped to ensure overall quality. Regarding this service Dr. Vierling said, “Mistakes happen but the ability to definitively identify the root cause will prevent them from happening again.”

More and more customers are learning that the Indiana Crop Genetics Program is the source for the highest quality seed genetic testing and problem solving.

Indiana Crop Improvement Association is located at 7700 Stockwell Road in Lafayette, Indiana. Customers and industry friends are invited to stop by for a visit and a tour of the impressive new addition to our facility.
