Notice of submission for
approval of novel food, livestock feed and environmental safety
approval for commercial planting purposes of a plant genetically
modified for insect resistance and from Monsanto Canada Inc.
Background
The
Canadian Food Inspection
Agency (CFIA) and Health Canada have received a submission
from Monsanto Canada Inc.
seeking an approval for environmental safety approval for
commercial planting purposes and livestock feed and food use of
a corn line designated as MON 89034, which has been genetically
modified for insect resistance. The submission received is in
accordance with CFIA guidelines for assessment of plants with
novel traits (PNTs) for unconfined release, CFIA guidelines for
assessment of novel feeds from plant sources, and HC guidelines
for assessment of novel foods. To view information related to

Avis de

nouveau pour animaux et humains et d'approbation de sûreté
environnementale pour un végétal destiné à la plantation
commerciale, qui a été modifié génétiquement pour le rendre
résistant aux insectes
Contexte
L'ACIA et Santé Canada ont reçu de
la compagnie Monsanto Canada Inc. une demande d'approbation
concernant la sûreté environnementale d'une lignée de maïs
portant la désignation MON 89034 qui a été génétiquement
modifiée pour être résistante aux insectes. Cette lignée est
destinée à la plantation commerciale ainsi qu'à l'alimentation
humaine et animale. La demande reçue conforme aux directives de
l'ACIA concernant l'évaluation des végétaux à caractères
nouveaux (VCN) pour dissémination en milieu non confiné et pour
l'alimentation du bétail et aux directives de Santé Canada au
sujet de l'évaluation des aliments nouveaux. Pour obtenir de
