Seed Services, Inc.
is now offering the Corn Referee Test (CRT) as a more
comprehensive procedure to evaluate seed quality within today’s
rapidly evolving corn hybrids, traits, fungicide and
seed-applied insecticide environment. A continually changing
list of hybrids, the need for quick decision making information
and an increasing expectation for seed quality requires a
stepwise approach to assess seed quality.
Choose a CRT as a matter of routine or when a
corn contract has an “apparent” quality issue. We recommend
testing an 800-seed warm germination and 400-seed tray cold or
saturated cold, as appropriate.
Sampling is always a critical step and especially
when an “apparent” seed quality issues exists. More
attention to proper sampling, composite sample mixing and
reduction to submitted sample size is required to assure a
representative sample. MWSS has developed a corn sampling fact
sheet for your review for proper sampling procedures.
