Great Lakes Hybrids introduces new G3 series hybrids and 39 new products
Ovid, Michigan
September 14, 2006

Great Lakes Hybrids now has 11 triple-stacked G3 hybrids, effectively marrying the world’s top breeding technology, germplasm and yield protection in one hybrid series. These are all available now for 2007 planting.

With its launch of the triple-stacked G3 series, using exceptional proprietary germplasm, Great Lakes Hybrids has jumped to the forefront in the genetics race. Mike Stephenson, Great Lakes Hybrids brand manager, sees the G3 series as the “ultimate intersection of technology and nature.”

“For the past 21 years, Great Lakes Hybrids has achieved the highest winning percentage of championships, of every major seed company, in the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) National Corn Yield Contest. Ninety percent of the NCGA wins were using a traited hybrid (YGCB, YGRW, RR2 or stacked. The G3 series will build on this winning record,” said Stephenson.

“Our G3 hybrid lineup features our best, unique genetics combined with YieldGard® Plus with Roundup Ready® Corn 2, Poncho® 250 seed-applied insecticide, Trilex® FL fungicide, and it’s packaged for a great value to the farmer.”

In 2006, Great Lakes tested more than 50,000 new genetic combinations which yielded 22 new hybrids from 14 unique, new genetic lines, along with 15 new soybean brands and two new alfalfa brands. The descriptions of these new products are listed below.

So how do G3 hybrids benefit the farmer?

Great Lakes’ proprietary germplasm is one of the richest privately-owned germplasm bases in the world, providing an unusually deep pool of championship genetics and an exceptionally fertile environment for new hybrids. Working with its parent company, AgReliant Genetics, GLH now introduces the world’s first commercial doubled-haploid program, allowing the company to produce new, better hybrids in less nearly one-half of the typical timeframe. AgReliant is the world’s largest corn breeding company that is owned and operated by seedsmen and does not license their proprietary genetic material to other companies.

“Farmers want to reduce risk and raise their profit margins. By planting G3 hybrids, they can rest assured that they are planting unique hybrids from Great Lakes that are truly Generations Ahead,” adds Stephenson.
