Risk assessment and regulation of transgenic insect release
Rome, Italy

On 8-12 April 2002, a meeting on the "Status and risk assessment of the use of transgenic arthropods in plant protection" was held at FAO Headquarters, Rome, organised by the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture and the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention.

The goals of the meeting were to:

  • review the current status of transgenesis in pest arthropods;
  • identify risks associated with the release of transgenic arthropods; and
  • draft provisional risk assessment protocols.

Proceedings of the meeting (155 pages) are now available on the web.
