First consignment of Jatropha seeds from India arrives in Namibia, to be used for biodiesel production

According to Namibia’s newspaper New Era, the first large consignment of Jatropha seeds have arrived in the country from India.

After having looked at other alternative fuel sources such as plant oils from sunflower, canola, soy, or cotton, local experts have determined that oil from Jatropha carcus is the most viable option for Namibia.

Jatropha is well suited to the country’s climate, as it thrives under hot conditions and is able to survive long periods of drought.
