Selecting for yield, protein and oil: The Soybean Variety Selector 2006
USA
March 23, 2006

Source: The United Soybean Board

With the soybean planting season just about to start, farmers look forward to an abundant crop, but it’s never too early to start planning for 2007.

The checkoff-developed software program, Soybean Variety Selector 2006, includes crop data for 2005 and can be used by farmers to aid in seed selection.

The program provides essential information for meeting the demands of customers overseas and at home when it comes to oil and protein content. Overseas buyers demand at least 19 percent oil and 35 percent protein.

Informed seed selection allows farmers to remain competitive. The checkoff noticed that seed bookings are starting earlier each year, and it’s important for farmers to have the valuable information they can gather from the Soybean Variety Selector 2006 in order to choose seed varieties targeting the 19/35 goal.

The program can be downloaded or ordered for free from the checkoff Web site www.worldsbestbeans.com
