Growers who plant Mycogen brand seed will be excited to learn that grain from Herculex® I Insect Protection corn hybrids can soon be exported to the European Union.

Dow AgroSciences, co-developer of the technology, recently announced that grain and processed products from Herculex I corn hybrids have received approval for all food uses in the European Union. This approval is in addition to last year’s EU approval of the trait for animal feed uses.

When this approval is final, importation of grain with the Herculex I trait can begin and hybrids with the Herculex I trait will no longer be sold under the Market Choices® program which includes products subject to certain market-channeling and export restrictions.

“Herculex® I has given Mycogen Seeds growers a new, broader-spectrum choice for in-plant insect protection,” says Terry Gardner, Marketing Specialist, Mycogen Seeds. “This approval eliminates any inconvenience associated with having to channel grain from Herculex I hybrids away from the EU and will make Herculex I hybrids even more appealing to growers.”

This EU approval for Herculex I does not apply to or permit the import of grain from Herculex® RW or Herculex XTRA hybrids or hybrids containing the stack of Herculex I and Roundup Ready Corn 2 traits. EU approvals for these products are expected in the future.
