The American
Phytopathological Society (APS) Foundation will present
several monetary awards at the upcoming APS Annual Meeting,
being held jointly with the Canadian Phytopathological Society
and the Mycological Society of America, July 29 - August 2,
2006, in Québec City, Québec, Canada.
The Lucy Hastings
de Gutiérrez Fund for Excellence in Teaching will be presented
to Cleo D'Arcy, University of Illinois, recipient of the
Excellence in Teaching Award given through APS.
David Thurston,
Cornell University, will receive the JANE International Service
Award, an award given to the recipient of the APS International
Service Award.
Walid Hamada,
Institut National Agronomique de Tunisie, will be the recipient
of the International Travel Award. This fund, established with
the Office of International Programs, supports travel costs for
early- to mid-career international APS members to participate in
an APS Annual Meeting.
The Frank L.
Howard Undergraduate Fellowship, a fund supporting undergraduate
research projects in plant pathology, will be given to Jana K.
Stedman of Iowa State University.
The 6th I.E.
Melhus Graduate Student Symposium Award, to support a student
speaker or student symposium at the APS Annual Meeting, will be
presented to Sara Blumer, Michigan State University; Zhaohui
Liu, North Dakota State University; Maria Gay Carrillo,
University of Philippines; Angela Records, Texas A&M University;
and Robert Duncan, University of California-Davis.
In addition,
travel awards will be presented to 31 students. The $500 awards
are designed to help students studying in the field of plant
pathology present their work, either in an oral or poster
presentation, at the society’s annual meeting.
