NK® Brand continues its
commitment to helping growers achieve maximize return on
every acre with the addition of 23 new soybeans, 29 new corn
hybrids and two new alfalfa varieties to its already strong
agronomic portfolio for 2007. The 54 latest NK Brand
products further expand growers’ trait and conventional seed
choices, and provide more yield through the strong genetics
they have come to expect from NK Brand.
“Our research efforts test
hundreds of products in the field, and we only release them
to growers when we are sure they are proven performers,”
said Marshall Kostiuk, NK Brand corn marketing manager.
“With proven soybean disease packages and effective
AgrisureTM corn trait options, this wide range of NK Brand
seed choices fits into any management program or crop
rotation plan.”
NK Brand is backed by the
resources and research of Syngenta™, which invests $750,000
a day in seed breeding and biotechnology research. NK Brand
works with more than 330 researchers and has access to 2.3
million research plots to effectively screen for the best
new products.
In addition, NK Brand Agrisure
corn hybrids and Roundup Ready® soybeans can be part of the
valuable AgriEdgeTM system to help growers manage risk and
find the best combination of seed, seed treatment and crop
protection products for maximum return for every acre.
“As always, we start with
superior genetics and pair them with strong disease
packages, herbicide flexibility and effective pest control,”
Kostiuk said. “The 54 new NK Brand offerings demonstrate our
desire to provide growers with seed products that help them
maximize return on every acre. Plus, they are supported by
100-plus years of industry experience, outstanding customer
service and extensive agronomic expertise.”
23 New NK Brand Soybean
Varieties Provide More Answers
“With nearly 40 years of
soybean breeding under our belt, NK Brand continues to
provide growers with top-notch genetics,” said Kurt Sieren,
NK Brand Seeds soybean product manager. “Rigorous screening
and selection processes ensure NK Brand soybeans feature
strong disease packages tailored to common challenges.”
The 23 new soybean seed
choices address a range of production pests, including
Phytophthora
root rot, soybean cyst nematode (SCN) and sudden death
syndrome (SDS). Additionally many tackle regional issues
such as Sclerotinia
(white mold), brown stem rot (BSR), iron deficiency
chlorosis (IDC) and southern root knot nematode. When paired
with the popular protection of CruiserMaxx™ Beans*, growers
experience an extra level of security to protect genetic
potential and get soybeans off to a healthy start.
The 2005 Syngenta Learning
Center trials found that CruiserMaxx Beans-treated seed
planted between April 22 and May 16, 2005, delivered a 5.5
bu/A yield advantage over untreated soybeans. With soybeans
priced at $6/bu, early-planted varieties treated with
CruiserMaxx Beans would be valued at more than $30 per acre
over untreated acres.
According to Sieren, field
history and disease pressure should play a primary role in
seed selection. “Seedling diseases, like
Phytophthora,
are often main culprits for yield loss, and later-season
diseases such as brown stem rot (BSR) and SDS and SCN can
reduce yields.
“Small plot trials across
North America – from Kansas east to New Jersey, and Quebec
down to the Gulf Coast – sample major production, climate
and soil type divisions at more than 800,000 trials, helping
NK Brand provide the best varieties for any environment,”
Sieren said. “The number of new varieties released each year
has doubled since the late 1990s, and as records show, the
new varieties consistently out-yield predecessors,
continually helping growers to increase their profitability.
“
Six of
the new varieties have been designated Extra Edge High
Protein soybeans, five are Extra Edge High Oil soybeans, and
two are both High Protein and High Oil soybeans. The Extra
Edge soybean portfolio characterizes varieties that offer
High Oil and High Protein, and all Extra Edge soybeans meet
recommendations from the United Soybean Board, which
encourages growers to choose soybeans that fit processor
needs.
29 New NK Brand Corn
Hybrids Provide More Choices
For
2007, NK Brand will continue to build on its broad corn
portfolio by offering superior genetics that can be
protected with better weed management programs and insect
control technologies.
Nineteen of the new NK Brand hybrids feature Agrisure corn
traits, including glyphosate tolerance or corn borer
resistance. The Agrisure CB/LL hybrids also include
LibertyLink® technology (Liberty® herbicide tolerance), to
give growers even more choices for effective weed and pest
management solutions. NK Brand also provides growers with
stacked insect control and herbicide-tolerant hybrids
through Agrisure corn traits, LibertyLink hybrids, and
hybrids compatible with the CLEARFIELD® System.
“By adding these versatile new
hybrids to our already broad portfolio, growers can select
from a range of conventional and trait hybrids to execute
effective stewardship, pest and herbicide management
choices,” Kostiuk said. “Ranging in maturity from 78 to 124
days, all 29 of the new hybrids are solid yield performers
and enhance the NK Brand reputation for maximum return from
every acre.”
All NK
Brand hybrids will be treated with Cruiser Extreme® 250**
for early season disease and insect protection. In 2005
Syngenta Learning Center trials, hybrids with Cruiser
Extreme 250 treatment averaged 8.5 bu/A more than
conventional hybrids without seed treatment For effective
control of corn rootworm and up to 14 other pests, growers
can combine NK Brand hybrids with Agrisure CB, plus Cruiser
Extreme® 1250*** seed treatment.
Plus, 17 of the new hybrids
are characterized as Extra Edge High Extractable Starch
hybrids, suitable for wet-mill processing, and two meet
requirements for optimal dry-grind ethanol production. NK
Brand Extra Edge corn hybrids have been characterized so
growers and processors can better identify a portfolio that
will have strong agronomic performance on the farm and excel
in specialty processing, such as high fructose, wet-mill
applications and dry-grind ethanol.
2 New Alfalfa Varieties
Provide More Protection
In addition
to the recent release of Liberator and Revolution, the first
NK Brand alfalfa varieties with Roundup Ready technology,
two more varieties will expand the wide range of NK Brand
alfalfa offerings for 2007. Evergreen 3 with HopperGuard™
can out-yield conventional alfalfas by more than one ton per
year in unsprayed fields with its very high potato
leafhopper (PLH) resistance. The second new variety,
Mendota, establishes thick, healthy stands in fields where
resistance to both Races 1 and 2
Aphanomyces are
required, with no yield drag.
