"Advances in Plant Genetics" - a computer-based resource package for Australian high school science teachers
Australia
June 2, 2006

Encouraging student interest in genetics is one of the aims of a recently launched DVD, 'Advances in Plant Genetics'.

It is the second computer-based resource package for high school science teachers developed by the University of Western Australia's Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (FNAS), in association with the University of Tasmania and the GRDC.

FNAS Dean, Professor Alistar Robertson, said that a move to teaching in context meant secondary science teachers needed resources to support new courses.

"This DVD will provide an agricultural context for biology teaching.

"It delves into DNA mapping using restriction enzymes, in the context of canola breeding, to show students the relevance of molecular biology," he said.
