Golden Harvest Seeds offers Agrisure RW for corn rootworm protection
Waterloo, Nebraska
December 11, 2006

Golden Harvest Seeds® now offers farmers reliable corn rootworm protection with the Syngenta Agrisure™ RW.
The seed trait, which was recently approval by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is available to growers as a single trait or as a double stack, Agrisure GT/RW, which provides glyphosate tolerance.

Corn hybrids with Agrisure RW protect against damage from Northern, Western and Mexican corn rootworm larvae by producing a protein that is toxic to the pest. Growers across most of the country battle at least one of the species.

Golden Harvest will offer four hybrids with Agrisure RW for the 2007 growing season in maturities that range from 99-day to 115-day relative maturity:

  • H-7447RW – 99-day relative maturity, has excellent stalk and root strength, good test weight, fast dry-down and very good seedling vigor for planting in cool soils

  • H-8614RW – 108-day relative maturity, has outstanding yield potential for its maturity, consistent performance across multiple environments and early flowering allowing it to move beyond its relative maturity adaptation

  • H-8716RW – 109-day relative maturity, has excellent stay green and late season plant health, good root and stalk strength, gray leaf spot tolerance

  • H-8853RW – 110-day relative maturity, has strong emergence, good root strength for easy harvest and gray leaf spot tolerance allowing it to be placed in disease-prone fields

  • H-8998GT/RW – 111-day relative maturity, western corn belt hybrid with excellent top-end yield potential, solid drought tolerance and good emergence for early planting

  • H-9413RW – 115-day relative maturity, excellent seedling vigor, high-yield hybrid, adapts well to drought prone soils

“Our ability to offer Agrisure RW hybrids is another step in the Golden Harvest commitment to help growers take control of their corn production,” said Rob Robinson, Golden Harvest head of operations. “Agrisure RW hybrids offer a highly effective choice for root worm control, backed with the performance assurances of Syngenta and the commitment to service from Golden Harvest.”

“Our hybrids with Agrisure RW hybrids will allow farmers to successfully combat corn rootworm without sacrificing any yield performance,” said Chuck Lee, Golden Harvest head of marketing.

“Agrisure RW hybrids sustained the least amount of damage when compared to other control options in a 2006 Golden Harvest Agronomy Up Front study on rootworm control,” said Wayne Fithian, Golden Harvest agronomy systems manager. “Root damage ratings, a measure of the extent of rootworm feeding injury sustained, were lower for Agrisure RW hybrids when compared to other control alternatives, at all levels of rootworm pest density.”
