African violet (Saintpaulia
lonantha) has grown well in Viet Nam under a project by Dr. Bui
Van Le from Ho Chi Minh City
University of Natural Sciences.
The trial project, recently
approved by the city's Science and Technology Department, has
pave the way for mass production in the country.
Dr. Le was the first person to
bring home the flower strain from France and grow it in the hot
and humid weather in Viet Nam. Since 2004, he has "localised" 20
species of African violet, which are now planted in large scale
in Cu Chi district, on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City.
African violet is preferred in
Asia and America for its various colours and ability to be grown
indoor. |
