August 4, 2006

Fifth-generation seedsman with broad industry experience tapped to grow U.S. seed business

Seeds of Change, the oldest and largest producer of 100% organic seeds, announced today the appointment of Marc Cool as Director of its U.S. Seed business.  Bringing a broad range of experience in the seed industry to the company, Cool has been tapped to develop the commercial side of the seed business and provide integration between the organic seed industry, professional vegetable growers and the food industry.

“We are delighted to have Marc Cool join our team as Seed Director,” said Seeds of Change President Mark Koide.  “Marc has a strong reputation in the seed industry that is well-deserved, having served as a board member with organizations such as the American Seed Trade Association and the American Seed Research Foundation.”

Cool offers a wealth of industry experience as a fifth-generation seedsman and an accomplished professional seed executive with plant breeding, commercial, organic and operational experience in both domestic and international markets.  He joins Seeds of Change from Barenbrug USA, where he was responsible for professional forage and turf grass seed markets in North and South America, Pacific Rim and Asia, as well as all operational activities.  Prior to Barenbrug, Cool served as Vice President of W-L Research, Inc., a leading breeder of proprietary alfalfa varieties.

Cool is a Board Member and Officer of the American Seed Trade Association, the Mexican Seed Trade Association and the American Seed Research Foundation.  He is also a U.S. Representative to the International Seed Federation and is on the Editorial Board of Seed World magazine.

Seeds of Change is the oldest and largest producer of 100% organic seeds.  Seeds of Change was born in 1989 with a simple mission: to help promote biodiversity and promote sustainable, organic agriculture.  Today, the company offers many heirloom, rare and traditional varieties to both consumers and professional growers.
