The grains industry’s contribution
to Australia can now be accessed in one convenient location with
the launch today of a new web site.
Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry
Sussan Ley launched the web site,
the Grains
Industry Profile, at Grains Week in Canberra.
“The Grains Industry Profile is an evolving, interactive web
site that gauges how the grains industry is performing against a
range of environmental, economic and social outcomes, such as
water quality, exports and employment,” Ms Ley said.
“Users can log on to the web site and get a complete picture of
how the industry contributes to our total quality of life.
“The web site is also intended to inform and stimulate
discussion about the grains industry, and evolve through feed
back from users.
“The grains industry is going through a period of rapid change.
Understanding its full range of contributions is vital for
government and industry policy makers to identify challenges and
opportunities.”.
The Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS) developed the Grains Industry
Profile with the Grains R&D Corporation, the Grains Council of
Australia and the National Land & Water Resources Audit (NLWRA).
The Grains Industry Profile is the first major demonstration
product of Signposts for Australian Agriculture, a partnership
between the rural research and development corporations,
governments and NLWRA.
This is the first of four agricultural industries that will be
profiled under the Signposts partnership.
“The Grains Industry Profile is leading the way in the
collection and presentation of information on our important
primary industries,” Ms Ley said.
