As the soybean harvest season
comes to a close, farmers are already in the midst of seed
selections for next year’s crop. That’s why when it comes to
choosing the best soybean seed varieties, information can
translate to profitability.
The Variety Selector program
developed by the
checkoff gives farmers a tool to access information
about soybean seed performance comparisons of various
varieties in different regions. In turn, farmers can
calculate the potential value of higher quality soybeans.
With this information in hand,
farmers can ask their seed dealers about seed varieties
offering at least 19 percent oil and 35 percent protein.
And, when every soybean farmer
chooses varieties targeting the 19/35 goals, the overall
average oil and protein levels of the nation’s soybeans
increase. Increasing the nation’s average answers
international and domestic demand for high oil and protein
soybeans.
The program can be downloaded

via the Web.
The United Soybean
Board (USB) is made up of 64 farmer-directors who
oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of
all U.S. soybean farmers. Checkoff funds are invested in the
areas of animal utilization, human utilization, industrial
utilization, industry relations, market access and supply.
As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and
Customer Information Act, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing
Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the
soybean checkoff.
