Sakata Seed Corporation
and the Hyogo Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Technology
Center jointly announced on November 21 that they have
established an innovative coating technology for seeds. The
newly-developed technology can coat seeds with living organisms
that have inhibitory effects against soil-borne fungi.
The
technology can facilitate pest control without the excessive use
of pesticides and serves for safer and more environmentally
friendly agriculture.
Dubbed as
Live Coat (currently applied for trademark registration), this
is the first such pest control technology that has been
developed in the world. Compared to conventional approaches, the
latest technology helps achieve labor saving and low-cost pest
control.
