Turf-Seed's field day showcases new cultivars of perennial ryegrass, tall and fine fescue, and kentucky bluegrass

Turf-Seed, Inc. utilized Field Day 23, held in Rolesville, North Carolina as the site for showcasing new seed varieties for 2005 including cultivars featuring herbicide, disease, salt and drought tolerance.

“More than 20 new varieties will be available this fall,” said Bill Rose, president, Turf-Seed, Inc. “Among the most unique are those bred for specific disease resistant attributes, as well as the first seeded paspalum to hit the market.”

Sea Spray, produced by Turf-Seed, Inc., is the first seashore paspalum available from seed. The variety will be widely available this fall and is recommended for golf course fairways, tees and greens.

Through diligent research, Turf-Seed, Inc. is also able to naturally develop enhanced varieties that will help golf course superintendents and lawn care professionals solve a variety of turfgrass problems. Some of these varieties include:

PERENNIAL RYEGRASS

• Quicksilver is glyphosate tolerant and is stem rust, crown rust resistant.
• $ilver Dollar provides high gray leaf spot and dollar spot resistance, and is crown rust and stem rust resistant.

TALL FESCUE

• Silverado II provides high gray leaf spot resistance, as well as good heat tolerance and brown patch resistance.
• Silverstar is brown patch and Pythium blight resistant.
• Tar Heel II provides excellent brown patch and gray leaf spot resistance, and is heat and shade tolerant. Its salt tolerance = 85.7% at 25,000 ppm NaCI.

FINE FESCUE

• Aurora II Hard Fescue provides excellent red thread resistance, and is Pythium blight, dollar spot and leaf spot resistant.
• Florentine GT Strong Creeping Red Fescue is glyphosate and salt tolerant.

KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS

• Moonshine is a Shamrock hybrid that provides good stem rust and stripe smut resistance. Its seed count per pound = 1,180,020.
