Applications are now open for the
New South Wales Farmers'
Association tertiary education scholarships, with
an unprecedented seven grants worth $5000 each on offer to high
achieving students, two more than previous years.
Chair of the NSW
Farmers' Association Rural Affairs Committee, Alan Brown, says
the scholarships are a great way to support young people from
regional areas to assist them in furthering their education.
"We hope the
winners will return to rural NSW and use their skills to
strengthen regional communities," Mr Brown said.
Applications are opened to Association members, or children of
members, who are full time students in their second or
subsequent year at a recognised tertiary institution.
"Either the
applicant, their partner or their parents must have been full
members of NSW Farmers' Association for at least the past two
years," Mr Brown said.
"Applicants will
be judged on their academic record, leadership qualities,
community involvement, communication skills and their commitment
to making a lasting contribution to both agriculture and rural
communities.
"One scholarship
will go to a student of agriculture in an effort to encourage
them to return to the land upon completion of their studies.
"Eligible students
have until January 27, 2006 to get their applications into the
Association's head office as soon as possible, so time is
running out.
"The seven winners
will be announced in April 2006," Mr Brown concluded.
Application forms
are available from the Association's Member Service Centre on
1300 794 000 and on the website at
