Bunge and DuPont statement on Kellogg's announcement to use low linolenic soybean oil
Des Moines, Iowa
December 9, 2005

Major initiative to reduce transfat in food to include NUTRIUM

Troy Hobbs, Bunge DuPont Biotech Alliance business manager, issued the following statement on the announcement  Kellogg will be accepting low linolenic soybeans for use in their food  products in 2006:

"We applaud Kellogg's leadership in recognizing the value of low linolenic soybeans and pledging the use of soybean oil in Kellogg food products.  We are excited to be working with food manufacturers like Kellogg to reduce and/or eliminate the trans fat levels in their products while maintaining the quality and shelf life consumers have come to expect.

"This is a clear signal to consumers and U.S. growers that the food industry is looking for different solutions.  NUTRIUM™ Low Linolenic Soybean Oil marketed through the Bunge DuPont Alliance is one of the solutions offered to food companies to help meet increasing consumer demand for nutritious foods.  Through the Alliance, Pioneer Hi-Bred International and Bunge are working with growers and local elevators to contract Pioneer low lin soybean varieties used to produce NUTRIUM oil.

"While low lin soybeans are designed to benefit food processors, foodservice providers and ultimately consumers, growers who embrace low lin soybeans will reap rewards as well.  Growers who plant low lin soybeans from Pioneer Hi-Bred International during the 2005-2006 season will have the opportunity to earn premiums for their efforts.  Select elevators in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Missouri will offer up to a 40-cent premium per bushel on low lin soybeans as part of the Bunge DuPont Biotech Alliance."
