Delta and Pine Land Company events being
planned across the Cotton Belt
Cotton producers can get a close look at exciting
new Bollgard II/Roundup Ready Flex varieties from
Delta
and Pine Land Company (D&PL) during company field days this summer.
“As the industry’s leading cotton seed company,
our customers expect us to be on the cutting edge of
technology,” said Jim Willeke, Vice President of Sales and
Marketing for D&PL. “These field days allow producers,
consultants and others to see first-hand how this new technology
is performing in the field and in D&PL varieties that will be
available in 2006 and the coming seasons.
“In particular, there is tremendous interest in
D&PL Bollgard II/Flex varieties along with a new stacked
variety, DP 454 BG/RR, which has producers excited about its
potential to combine great yield with premium-quality fiber.”
DP 454 BG/RR is a new Bollgard/Roundup Ready®
stacked variety combining the yield potential of DP 555 BG/RR
and the fiber quality characteristics of DP 444 BG/RR – the
number-one and number-two planted cotton varieties in the United
States in 2005. The D&PL 400-series of products (DP 444 BG/RR,
DP 445 BG/RR, DP 455 BG/RR, DP 432 RR and DP 434 RR) have
demonstrated potential for good performance in a wide range of
geographies across the United States. Many of these products
will be in side-by-side comparisons with competitor products at
these events to demonstrate the advantage D&PL varieties offer
producers.
D&PL breeders have worked for several years
combining the new technology traits with elite D&PL seed
germplasm to develop BGII/RR Flex varieties across all
maturities. Bollgard II is the second-generation
insect-protection technology developed by Monsanto that controls
a broader-spectrum of pests than Bollgard®. That technology is
stacked with Roundup Ready Flex, another Monsanto development
that allows over-the-top applications of glyphosate through
layby and beyond for better and longer weed control.
Important D&PL producer field days include:
Texas
Biotechnology will be on the grandstand at the
annual D&PL Field Day in Lorenzo, Texas on Sept. 15. Producers
will get a chance to see new Bollgard II/Roundup Ready Flex
varieties from D&PL, as well as some of the newer
BG/RR varieties that have demonstrated excellent yield and fiber
quality potential in the High Plains.
The event will be held eight miles south of
Lorenzo at the Steve Chapman farm and begins at 9 a.m. Attendees
will get an opportunity to see new D&PL cotton varieties grown
in drip, pivot and non-irrigated situations.
“We encourage producers to come out on Sept. 15
to see the commitment D&PL has to west Texas,” said Matt Vaughn,
D&PL Regional Sales Manager for west Texas. “Our commitment runs
much deeper than the super research facilities we operate in the
region and the outstanding products we’ve bred and developed for
this market. It also includes a fully-staffed sales and
technical services team serving the region. No one has the
commitment in facilities, people or products for the west Texas
market like D&PL.”
Arizona
At the annual D&PL Field Tour in Coolidge, Ariz.
on Sept. 22, a new high-yielding BGII/RR flex variety is the
featured attraction. Yet to be named, the new D&PL mid- to
full-season variety is being grown for seed production this year
in Arizona to build supplies for the 2006 season. The new
variety has exhibited excellent heat tolerance in testing in
Arizona and is a both a vigorous-growing and highyield potential
variety, similar to DP 555 BG/RR.
Also on the Arizona tour will be two
Bollgard/Roundup Ready stacked varieties, DP 445 BG/RR and DP
455 BG/RR. Launched in Arizona on a limited scale this year,
these two varieties have demonstrated good adaptation in parts
of the state and should be in demand for 2006. The tour will
also feature side-by-side comparison of D&PL varieties with
competitor products.
“This is the farm tour in Arizona where producers
can see side-by-side comparisons of the leading D&PL varieties
with competitor products” said Mike Farmer, D&PL District Sales
Manager in Arizona. “D&PL has an exciting lineup of varieties
shaping up for 2006 with new technologies and enhanced yield and
quality potential, and this event is where you can see these
products on large plots.”
Field tours begin at 10 a.m. and lunch starts at
11 a.m. Please make plans to attend the event, which is located
3 miles south of Coolidge on the Greg Wuertz farm.
Sunbelt Ag Expo
New D&PL products will be on display at the
Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Ga., Oct. 18-20, including the new
BGII/RR Flex varieties and the exciting new DP 454 BG/RR that
combines the best traits of America’s leading two varieties, DP
555 BG/RR and DP 444 BG/RR.
