Arcadia Biosciences, an
agricultural biotechnology company focused on products that
benefit people and the environment, today announced that Don
Emlay has joined the company as director of regulatory affairs
and compliance.
Mr. Emlay brings more than 30 years of regulatory experience
with consumer, industrial, and biotechnology-based plant
products. During the past 17 years he has worked exclusively in
the area of plant biotechnology. As vice president of regulatory
affairs with Calgene, Inc. he provided leadership in the initial
development of industry and regulatory guidelines for transgenic
plants. He led the team of scientists, lawyers and regulatory
specialists that brought the first genetically modified whole
food through the USDA and FDA regulatory approval processes.
"Mr. Emlay is one of the agricultural biotechnology industry's
regulatory pioneers," said Eric Rey, president of Arcadia
Biosciences. "His deep experience in agricultural and food
regulatory activities is an enormous asset to Arcadia as our
product development activities continue to intensify."
Arcadia's current technology portfolio includes
nitrogen-efficient plants; salt-tolerant plants; ricin-free
castor plants; and plants that produce high levels of
health-promoting omega-6 fatty acids. Mr. Emlay will be
responsible for product planning and all regulatory activities
related to these products.
